Privacy Policy for Chem

Information you provide:

• Account information: your email address, password, and phone number (optional)
• Profile details: your name, date of birth, gender, and the city you type in
• Your “looking for” preference. Together with your gender, this can reveal your sexual orientation, so we treat it as sensitive information. We collect and use it only with your explicit opt-in consent, given in the app, and only to find and show you matches. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account.
• Your answers to the element quiz
• Photos and selfies you upload
• Prompt responses, ratings, prompts you submit, and messages with other users
• Safety reports you file about other users
• Any other information you voluntarily submit

Information collected automatically:

• Your account's user ID, and a record of when you gave consent for sensitive information
• Device information and a push notification token, so we can send you notifications
• Log data kept by our hosting provider, such as IP addresses and timestamps, used to run and secure the Service
• A record of which elements were matched together when you match with someone, used to improve matching
• Your subscription status. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google; we only receive whether your subscription is active.

What we do not collect: your precise (GPS) location, payment card or financial details, your contacts, your browsing or search history, or your advertising ID. The city on your profile is typed by you, not taken from GPS. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

We use your information to:

• Provide and operate the Service, including creating your account and confirming you are 18 or older
• Facilitate connections and interactions between users, including matching and chat
• Improve and optimize the platform
• Personalize your experience
• Communicate with you, for example updates, support, and notifications
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or misuse, and review safety reports
• Unlock premium features while your subscription is active

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We may share information in the following circumstances:

• With other users, as part of normal app functionality (see section 4)
• With service providers who process data on our behalf: Supabase (hosting, database, and file storage), Expo (push notifications), and the Apple App Store and Google Play (in-app purchases)
• For legal reasons, such as complying with the law or protecting rights
• In business transfers, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale

Information you choose to share on Chem may be visible to other users based on app functionality. Other members can see your name, age, photos, prompt responses, and your element. They cannot see your email address or phone number.

Messages and photos you send in a chat, including photos shared through the photo reveal feature, are seen by the person you send them to. You are responsible for what you choose to share.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active, as necessary to provide the Service, and to comply with legal obligations.

You can delete your account at any time:

• In the app: Account tab > Delete Account
• On the web: chemsparks.com/account-deletion
• By email: help@chemsparks.com with the subject “Account deletion request”

Deleting in the app or on the web is permanent and immediate. It removes your account, profile, photos, prompt answers, ratings, messages, and matches. Email requests are completed within 30 days.

After deletion we keep only:

• Safety reports you filed about other users, and reports other users filed about you. The link to your account is removed, so the report no longer identifies you as the reporter or as the reported member, though the reason and any details written by the reporter are kept. We delete safety reports 3 years after they are made, except where a report is the basis of an active ban, in which case we keep it while that ban is in force.
• If your account was banned: a one-way cryptographic hash (a scrambled, irreversible value) of the email address and phone number on the account. A hash cannot be turned back into your email address or phone number, and we use it only to stop a banned person from opening a new account. We keep these hashes for 3 years from the date of the ban and then delete them automatically. We keep nothing of this kind for accounts that were not banned.
• Information we must preserve to respond to a law enforcement request or a legal claim, kept only as long as required.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate information. You can edit your profile in the app at any time.
• Delete your data (see section 5)
• Restrict or object to certain processing

To exercise these rights, email help@chemsparks.com from the email address on your account. We will respond within 30 days.

California and other U.S. state residents. State privacy laws, such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, may also give you the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and why; to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information, and we do not sell or share it, so there is nothing to opt out of; to limit the use of sensitive personal information, which we use only to provide the Service; not to be treated differently for exercising your rights; and to appeal a denied request by replying to our decision with “Appeal” in the subject line. An authorized agent may make a request for you, and we may ask for proof of their authority.

Do Not Track. We do not track you across other apps or websites, so we do not respond differently to “Do Not Track” or similar browser signals.

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (HTTPS), data storage controls, and access controls. However, no system is completely secure.

The Service is not intended for individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a minor is using Chem, email help@chemsparks.com.

The Service integrates with third-party services, including:

• Supabase, our backend, database, and storage provider
• Expo, which delivers push notifications
• The Apple App Store and Google Play, which process purchases

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services.

We may send you push notifications related to:

• Activity on your account
• Matches or interactions
• Updates or announcements

You can manage or disable notifications in your device settings.

Photos and other media you upload are stored and processed by our storage provider, Supabase. They support features such as profile display and photo reveal. Deleting your account deletes them.

Chem is currently available only in the United States. Your information is stored and processed in the United States, in our hosting provider's West US (Northern California) data center. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you consent to your information being transferred there.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will change the effective date at the top of this page, and continued use of the Service after updates constitutes acceptance.
